Forces of Nature
I was invited by the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands to take part in an exhibition entitled ‘Forces of Nature’. The only guideline I was set was to create a series of ten images that fitted within my interpretation of that title.
My interpretation was to explore both the ways in which nature can be forceful e.g. a plant pushing through rock or leaf carrier ants carrying leaves three times the size of their own bodies and also the ways in which we, as humans, force nature to bend and fit our desires e.g. keeping animals in cages and piercing and painting ourselves.
I created five images in each category (for want of a better word).
The exhibition was held at a restaurant and I advised the owners that not all my images would be suitable for display in dining areas. Despite this warning and their agreement to host the exhibition my five images of nature being forced (rather than being forceful) were removed after the opening night! I got more publicity than I could have hoped for due to that act of censorship!
I really liked the theme and have continued to explore it. I hope one day to show the original pieces with several additions as a larger exhibition. As you arrow through you will see all ten images. To get back to the main page hit the header at the top.
