My first burlesque show

On Sunday 20th October I performed in my first Burlesque show. I was on the line up for the After Hours Cabaret Club (RAW). I had participated in a five week ‘Sing and Strip’ showcase, under the guidance of Bettie Bombshell and Tash York. Two incredible performers, who I deeply admire.

The show went well and I was thrilled to be on the line up with so many amazing performers. Some were relatively new (although I was the only first time pastie wearer!) and some more experienced, but all super talented.

I have had a troubled relationship with my body for as long as I can remember, so getting it out and flaunting it to an audience felt HUGE for me.

Afterwards I thought more deeply about my inner critic and wrote a comedy set about it, which I performed at a CWA (Comedy Women’s Association) night on 23rd October, to a wonderful crowd. My set ended with “Let’s Pulverise the Patriarchy” – a term that my youngest offspring came up with that morning!
